DEPARTMENT / DIVISION: Parks & Recreation
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Golf and Sports Turf Supervisor. This is a semi-skilled and supervisory position over a crew engaged in the care and maintenance of City-owned and operated Sports Fields for the Parks Services Division of the Parks and Recreation Department.
PARTIAL LISTING OF MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school & two to four years of college preferred with emphasis in Turf Management or Plant Science related area or any equivalent combination of education & experience which would provide the following knowledge, skills, & abilities: Three years leadership experience in Sports Field/Turf Management. Considerable knowledge of & ability to perform turf maintenance using standard hand, power tools, & specialized equipment necessary for professional turf care. Considerable knowledge & application of safety standards pertaining to the use of equipment & sports turf management. Ability to plan, organize, schedule, assign & evaluate the work of subordinates. Adequate mobility to inspect all locations & aspects of 60 plus acres of professional turf. Operate & care for an irrigation system included on 25 plus sports fields. Maintain records & prepare reports. Communicate orally & in writing. Maintain effective working relationships with employees & the public. Work weekends & holidays as scheduled (March thru November). Keep abreast of newly developed sports turf techniques & equipment maintenance by attending training. Ability to wear a respirator and/or self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) as outlined in the Industrial Standard for Respirator Use. Excellent work history & attendance record. Possess & maintain a valid Missouri Certified Public Operator License in Turf & Ornamental. Possess & maintain a valid Missouri Driver’s License & an excellent driving record.
