“We’re here to learn,” First Selectman Peter Tesei – ever the peace-maker – calmly said after an “artificial turf” war consumed 90 minutes of a Board of Selectmen meeting in Greenwich Town Hall last Thursday.
The skirmish pitted child health vigilantes against factions advocating for more playing fields. Faces reddened as folks got hot under the collar. But there was no shouting, foot stamping or finger-pointing.
Under the circumstances, the disagreeing was, well, pretty civilized. As such, it appeared to be much to the liking of Tesei who, under such circumstances, has been observed many times cooling off hot heads by saying:
“We can disagree without being disagreeable.”
