Although town officials are going out of their way not to alarm parents of town athletes, Needham, MA is working on instituting regular testing of the town’s new artificial fields to monitor levels of chemicals in the nearby soil.


“We need a baseline number [on what’s running off the fields] when the fields are new to find what’s going on,” said Board of Health Chairman Peter Connolly. “We don’t want to scare anybody, but nobody knows anything [of what to look for in the tests].”
