Water Conservation Alliance enters next phase of strategic growth

The Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance (TWCA) announced a leadership transition as the organization sharpens its focus on drought trialing, industry awareness, member value, and the continued advancement of science-based turfgrass qualification.

After 12 years of dedicated service, Jack Karlin will transition out of his role as TWCA program administrator effective June 30, 2026. Karlin has played an important role in helping establish TWCA as a credible and respected water conservation program serving the turfgrass industry, research community, and managed landscape sector.

“On behalf of the board, we want to thank Jack for his twelve years of service and his commitment to advancing TWCA’s mission,” said Lucas Solis, TWCA president. “His work helped strengthen TWCA’s foundation, credibility, and industry relationships. We are grateful for his contributions and the role he has played in moving the organization forward.”

As demand grows for practical, research-based solutions to water use in managed landscapes, TWCA is positioned to play an increasingly important role. TWCA-qualified grasses are evaluated through multi-year, multi-site drought trials and reviewed by independent university researchers. Testing includes controlled drought conditions, objective digital image analysis, and performance standards designed to identify varieties with meaningful water-saving potential.

“This is an important moment for TWCA,” said Thomas Thiessen, TWCA vice president. “The board’s priority is to build on a strong foundation while increasing awareness of TWCA’s qualification program, strengthening member value, and continuing to support credible research and industry collaboration.”

TWCA remains committed to the development, recognition, and promotion of turfgrass varieties that help reduce water use while preserving the functional and environmental benefits of managed green spaces.

TWCA will share additional updates as the transition process develops.
