Turfgrass science education leads to fields in career dreams
Check out how SFMA member Marc Moran, CSFM prepares his high school students for careers in the sports field industry. At Atlee High School in Mechanicsville, Va., FFA members work on their own athletic fields as part of the Atlee turfgrass science program. The program began in 2001. Their turfgrass science curriculum has been adopted by the Virginia Department of Education, and Atlee High School became the first school in the state to teach turfgrass science as a recognized course. Many of Moran’s students go on to work in turfgrass management careers after high school.
