Mike Daly, whose industry career spanned more than 20 years, passed away in April due to brain cancer. He was 52.
Mike’s love for the game of golf and respect for superintendents in the industry began during his college years when he worked on a crew at a course near his childhood home in West Des Moines, Iowa. After working as an assistant superintendent, he transitioned to the manufacturing side and held numerous positions with industry-leading chemical companies including Ciba, Novartis and Bayer Environmental Science. Mike progressed through his career serving in roles such as field sales representative, regional sales manager, market and brand manager, and Director of Marketing. Even during the final stages of his battle with cancer, his desire to be connected to the game and the industry remained strong. Mike continued to provide his expertise as a product information specialist with Bayer.
“Mike was a thinker. He saw things from a different point of view. You could always count on Mike to bring fresh ideas and unique solutions,” said Neil Cleveland, director of the U.S. Green Business for Bayer Environmental Science and long-time friend. “Most importantly, Mike had a big heart and was always optimistic. He brought a fun-loving attitude to everyone and everything he touched. It will be especially difficult not hearing Mike’s laugh. It was so recognizable and contagious.”
Many friends and colleagues will remember Mike as an adoring husband and proud father. He is survived by his wife, Marcia; daughters, Noelle Hale and Lizzie; and son, Max.
