Stadium ‘a gem,’ but some question volume, types of activities
JOHNSTON, PA—Despite a raw, rainy spring, Pitt-Johnstown’s baseball team played all of its home games this year – in large part because of new artificial turf at Point Stadium.
“It was a godsend for us,” coach Todd Williams said.
Beginning Monday, Point stadium will again be the centerpiece of the annual All American Amateur Baseball Association national tournament, which brings 15 teams to the area from places such as New Orleans, Detroit and New York.
But from where city Councilwoman Ann Wilson sits, the Point – little more than a year removed from completion of an $11 million investment – is not living up to its potential.
