Cecil Pond, a pioneer of the riding lawn mower, has died at age 87. Born in 1924 in South Bend, Cecil Pond went to Purdue University for a year before joining the Army during World War II. He then returned to his hometown where he and his father began making a small farm tractor out of their garage.

Corey Russell spent two seasons with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans as assistant groundskeeper, soaking in all he could from Chris "Butter" Ball. In November 2010, Russell left for Round Rock, TX but when Ball advanced to the AAA Gwinnett Braves, Russell returned to the Pelicans.
