NE-SFMA baseball field renovation

The New England Sports Field Management Association (NE-SFMA) is teaming up with Project EverGreen to revitalize a baseball field at the Yawkey Boys and Girls Club of Roxbury, Massachusetts.

The club’s field hosts softball and baseball practices, drills, and league games. The effort will transform this well-loved ballfield into a safer and healthier green space for young ball players in one of Boston’s most underserved communities.

The event, planned for Wednesday, June 3, 2026, includes rebuilding the home plate area and pitcher’s mound, replacing bases and anchors, grading and resurfacing the infield and outfield, and seeding the playing surface. Using precision laser grading and professional-quality clay, infield mix, and conditioners. The project will enhance playability, improve drainage, and eliminate uneven areas that can cause injuries. Careful turf management will ensure the field remains durable, attractive, and sustainable for years to come.

Beyond the technical upgrades, the project underscores the vital role that healthy green spaces play in a community’s well-being. Safe, accessible athletic fields encourage physical activity and teamwork, while natural grass cools the environment, filters stormwater, and improves local air quality. These benefits extend far beyond the ballfield—creating a space where residents can connect, children can play, and community spirit can thrive.

The renovated ballfield at the Yawkey Boys and Girls Club will stand as a shining example of teamwork in action, restoring both the field and the spirit of play it supports.
