Competitive bids for a controversial synthetic turf renovation project in San Carlos could mean extra money for less debatable park-related uses like a dog park or playground equipment.
The San Carlos City Council on Monday night will vote to award the synthetic turf contract and with the offer being substantially lower than its $2.2 million budget for the project, officials are talking about what to do with the surplus. Since it will be paid for with Measure G, a $6 a parcel annual tax passed in 1999, the money can only go toward capital improvements and not operations.
