For parents in Lower Macungie (PA), it’s become as much a rite of spring as annual youth sports league signups: the mad scramble for green space.
The organizers behind organized sports in one of the state’s fastest growing municipalities are feeling their share of growing pains in trying to accommodate an influx of youngsters brought by the township’s housing boom.
”Are we in a field pinch? Absolutely,” said Brian Higgins, president of the Lower Macungie Youth Association, which expects about 2,500 children to participate in its programs in the coming weeks. ”Our field space is very, very limited in a township as large as Lower Macungie.”
