The Burlingame Elementary School District will likely spend as much as $1.5 million to install artificial turf and lighting at some of its athletic fields, an upgrade expected to drastically improve field space for local sports groups.


The district’s board of trustees on Tuesday authorized spending $800,000 to $1.1 million in public bond money to add artificial turf to the 106,000-square-foot Franklin Field at Franklin Elementary School. The district will also spend $436,000 to $573,000 to install artificial turf on the 56,000-square-foot Osberg Field at Burlingame Intermediate School.
