The Irrigation Association announced the winners of the 2012 New Product Contest at the annual Irrigation Show and Education Conference in Orlando. The awards highlight exhibitor entries based on a wide range of criteria, including innovative and/or changed for the better qualities, increased irrigation efficiency, ease of use, cost benefits, time savings and design quality.
For the second straight season Indianapolis Indians head groundskeeper Joey Stevenson has been chosen as the Triple-A Sports Turf Manager of the Year. This award comes after Stevenson was also named the International League Sports Turf Manager of the Year for the second straight year in early September.
"This is something you need to do on a regular basis in order to provide the best field we possibly can for the players and staff," remarked PawSox president Mike Tamburro. "When you have a big project like this, you shoot for perfection."

Reliant Stadium features the NFL's first retractable-roof football and rodeo stadium with a portable natural grass playing surface. The field is comprised of 8-foot square trays, which hold sections of grass that are pieced together for games. These trays are removed after Texans' games to be properly exposed to sunlight, water, and fertilization.

The annual purchases of sports turf products and services are more than $1.29 billion on over 2.8 million acres. That's approximately $457 per acre. These figures do not include salaries. Parks and recreation makes up $480 million in annual purchases while schools are at $685 million, college/universities $71 million, and professional facilities spend approximately $52 million.
