Virginia SFMA Recertification Webinar
Virginia SFMA will hold a Recertification Webinar via Zoom on June 2, 2026
Presentations include:
- Dr. Dan Sandor: “The ABC’s of Turfgrass Fertilizers”
- Elisabeth Kitchin: “Current and Emerging Technologies for Right-of-Way Turfgrass Pest Control”
- Samuel Kreinberg: “Targeted pesticide applications: an emerging topic in precision turfgrass management”
- Dr. Alejandro Del-Pozo: “The Bugs We Need”
- Samuel Crawford: “Weed Management in Turfgrass and Highway Rights of Way”
The webinar is free for VSFMA members and $50 for guests.
ISFMA Spring Workshop and ITI Extension Fundraiser
The Iowa SFMA (ISFMA) Spring Workshop will be held May 27. The event will take place at the Grimes Sports Complex in Grimes, Iowa. It will feature a tour of the Hi-Vee Multiplex, a field demo, and a presentation about future tech.

ISFMA also announced that the ITI Extension Fundraiser will be held June 8 at Bos Landen Golf Course in Pella. Proceeds will be used to support Iowa State University’s Turfgrass Extension Specialist, who travels throughout the state of Iowa to visit with turf grass professionals and help them with their challenges and diagnoses. The funds raised from this event cover the fees associated with these site visits and services for members of the allied associations.
Since the event’s inception in 2005, it has contributed over $100,000 to ISU Extension. In recent years, the Iowa Golf Association Foundation has become a large supporter of this event and cause, donating more than $24,000 in the past seven years combined.

TXSFMA Field Day
The Texas SFMA Field Day will be held May 27 in Kopperl, Texas. The event will feature a tour of Premier Sod Farm, equipment demos, lunch and networking.
May SCSFMA meeting
The May SCSFMA meeting will be held via Zoom May 20 at Noon. The Zoom waiting room will be open at 11:45am.
Dr. Muhammad “Zee” Ahmed, Asst. Professor Turf & Ornamental Clemson University Pee Dee Station will present “Emerging Turfgrass Pests: Diagnostics and Management.” Dr. Zee’s presentation covers emerging and resurging turfgrass pests-mole crickets, Bermudagrass mites, ground pearls, chinch bugs, and fall armyworms. He will focus on fast, reliable diagnostics, characteristic damage, and the management tactics most relevant for landscapes, sports fields, and sod. Emphasis is on practical scouting cues and timely, integrated control. One South Carolina Clemson DPR credit has been applied for.
