Virginia Tech turfgrass

Virginia Tech School of Turfgrass Ecology and Management

The sixth annual virtual Virginia Tech School of Turfgrass Ecology and Management (VT-STEM) opens online on November 1, 2025.

VT-STEM serves as a comprehensive introduction to the principles of successful turfgrass management. It’s primary focus is to instruct members of the turfgrass industry who have not had the opportunity or funds to pursue formal university training.

VT-STEM cover both cool-season and warm-season turfgrass systems, and features new topics presented weekly from November through mid-February with both asynchronous and synchronous training materials provided to students each week.

In addition, Zoom meetings will connect students with the Virginia Tech Turf Team faculty and industry guests from 7-9 p.m. EST every Wednesday.

Weekly pre- and post-training quizzes are used to assess student comprehension of the material, and all students who complete school requirements are eligible to sit for the virtual Virginia Certified Turfgrass Professional exams after the end of VT-STEM.

The cost is $600 per student (discounts offered to first responders, veterans and teachers/ADs).
