STMA’s deadline to submit for a scholarship, grant, a Field of the Year or to nominate someone for a Founders Award is Oct. 15.
STMA awards include the Field of the Year, which recognizes the superior management skills of members in the schools/parks, collegiate and professional categories who oversee fields in the sports of baseball, softball, soccer, football or sporting grounds.
Oct. 15 is the deadline to submit a deserving member that emulates one of STMA’s four founders: Dr. William Daniel, George Toma, Dick Ericson and Harry Gill. These Founders Awards are kept secret and announced during the annual awards banquet at the STMA conference. That ceremony will be Jan. 20, 2022 in Savannah, Georgia. Additionally, STMA recognizes commercial companies at the awards ceremony who exhibit innovation with an Innovative Award. These applications are also due on Oct. 15.
STMA’s scholarships for those in turfgrass management programs include named scholarships: The Dr. James Watson (sponsored by The Toro Co.) and The Fred Grau, funded by The SAFE Foundation. Depending upon funding availability, SAFE may award additional scholarships. The Darian Daily Legacy Scholarship is for members’ children and stepchildren (or if the member is a legal guardian) who are not pursuing a career in the green industry.
STMA’s grants include the Leo Goertz Membership grant, which provide a complimentary two-year national membership to someone who has not been a member for five years. The Gary Vanden Berg Internship grant provides reimbursement to a deserving STMA student member who has fulfilled an internship. The Terry Mellor Continuing Education grant is awarded to a chapter member to cover the costs to come to the STMA national conference.
