New soccer stadium approved in Austin, TX

According to an item in Katie McIntyre’s Sports Venue Business, plans to build a $225m, 20,000-capacity stadium for an upcoming Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise in Austin, TX have been approved by both the city and the project’s investor.

Austin FC Stadium will be the catalyst converting McKalla Place, a former industrial site, into a thriving community space for sports, parks, performances and events that will celebrate the city’s heritage and culture.

The project will be privately funded by Precourt Sports Ventures (PSV), a private equity firm based in California, owners of the Columbus Crew SC, and paid in monthly installments to the City of Austin.

The stadium has been designed by Gensler in cooperation with CAA ICON and TBG, with works due to begin this year and completion slated for early 2021.
