Starting in the 2013 growing season, Canadian golf courses, home lawns and sports fields can benefit from a turfgrass seed that has an advantage for early growth added right on the seed. Two Canadian companies – PICKSEED and Wolf Trax – are partnering to deliver the latest in early plant nutrition. PICKSEED will treat all pre-packaged turfgrass seed with PROTINUS® Seed Nutrition by Wolf Trax.
“We have looked at and tested various nutrient-enhancing products over the last two years,” says Terry Scott, director of western sales at PICKSEED. “PROTINUS has stood out from the others and is an exciting addition to our pre-packaged turfgrass seed line-up.”
PROTINUS is an innovative seed-applied fertilizer designed to enhance early seedling development. Studies show that PROTINUS treatment delivers faster, more even emergence; larger seedlings with longer, more developed roots; and the ability to withstand early stressful growing conditions. Improved early development results in plants that are more vigorous and better able to compete with weeds for moisture and nutrients.
“Whether we are talking to home owners or greenskeepers, we hear the same thing… and that’s how important quick emergence and early season growth are with turfgrass,” says Brenda Dubeck, manager, seed products at Wolf Trax. “PROTINUS delivers an extra boost of nutrients directly to the emerging seedling – which is particularly important when planting seed into those cool and wet soils that we face each and every spring. Quicker, more even emergence is one of the resulting benefits of this innovative seed-applied fertilizer”.
Since Otto Pick founded PICKSEED over 65 years ago, the company has focused on improving seed performance through quality, innovative products. This focus has remained a core value of PICKSEED and continues with the introduction of PROTINUS.
“We are proud to work with an industry-leading company like PICKSEED to provide the turfgrass and sod industries with a product proven to enhance the success of their newly seeded grasses,” adds Dubeck.
