Turfco congratulates Minnesota Field of Year

Turfco is pleased to congratulate Palm Field at St. Anthony Village High School on being recognized by the Minnesota Park and Sports Turf Managers Association with the group’s inaugural Field of the Year Award.

The award, sponsored by Turfco, is given to the field or facility that exemplified the best quality as determined by judges.

“It was clear to the judges that Palm Field truly was the best field in terms of details and quality of playing field,” said Greg Brodd from Turfco. “The attention to detail was above and beyond.”

This is quite an accomplishment, Brodd said, considering St. Anthony fields the smallest staff and budget of the fields nominated.

Beyond the staff of three that takes care of Palm Field, a grounds crew made up of hundreds of volunteers, parents and athletes from the community help maintain the field. Troy Urdahl, director of athletics and activities at St. Anthony Village High School, accepted the award on behalf of the school and community.

“We are honored to be named the 2010 Field of the Year,” Urdahl said. “We take great pride in our field, and it has become a source of community pride and effort. What you see on the field is a result of volunteer efforts, grants and gifts.”

Brodd said the award signifies more than just a quality playing field.

“Palm Field represents the pinnacle of commitment and professionalism in our industry,” he said. “The dedication to safe and consistent playing conditions at Palm Field is clearly a priority at St. Anthony High School.”

“All of the entrants for this year’s award presented facilities and fields that in their own way were deserving of this award,” Brodd said. “Turfco looks forward to participating and sponsoring this event for many years to come.”
