Bayer receives EPA registration for Specticle® herbicide

Specticle®, a new pre-emergent herbicide, received EPA registration, announced Bayer Environmental Science (BES), a division of Bayer CropScience LP. Designed for use on warm-season turf, Specticle delivers outstanding residual, broad spectrum control and a use rate that is the lowest in the industry among pre-emergent herbicides.

“What’s so special about Specticle is that it provides residual control unlike any pre-emergent product on the market,” said Matt Bradley, herbicide product manager for Bayer Environmental Science. With use rate flexibility, lower use rates provide from three to four months of control and with higher use rates, Specticle can last an unprecedented eight months. The superior residual combined with its broad spectrum of control will quickly make Specticle the foundation herbicide in warm-season turf.”

The recommended use rate for Specticle is 2.5 – 5.0 ounces per acre, depending on the weeds to be controlled and length of control desired. This rate is up to forty times less active ingredient than any other pre-emergent herbicide on the market.

The active ingredient in Specticle, indaziflam, is a cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor (CBI). Specticle is an improvement over other CBI herbicides because it has activity across both grassy and broadleaf weeds. The product has shown exceptional control of Poa, crabgrass, goosegrass and broadleaf weeds.

Specticle can be used on popular warm-season turf grasses including Bermudagrass, zoysiagrass, centipedegrass, St. Augustinegrass, and seashore paspalum.

Specticle is formulated as a wettable powder available in pre-measured water soluble packets. For convenience, two package sizes are available ─ six bottles with eight – 0.625 ounces packets each and four pouches with seven 2.5 ounces packets each.
