SFMA Mowing Patterns Contest winner announced

Nick Miller, field and grounds coordinator for the City of Aurora Parks and Recreation Department (Aurora, Ohio) was announced as the winner of the 2022 SFMA Mowing Patterns Contest. The winning field is located at Hartman Park 325 Townline Rd, Aurora, Ohio. This 28-acre sports complex was constructed in 2018 and consists of 4 baseball/softball fields and 15 acres of multi-use playing surface for soccer/lacrosse etc.

Hartman is one of many beautiful parks in the City of Aurora. Nick, Michael Cook and additional seasonal staff are responsible for the maintenance of 16 ballfields throughout the city. Nick has been in the position since 2018 and is committed to providing the safest and best playing surface possible for the community. Since 2018 they have fully renovated 9 ballfields and have implemented a field-by-field fertility program.

Miller was born and raised in the City of Aurora and has been working in the green industry all his life. He graduated from Kent State University with a degree in Horticulture and worked in the golf industry for 10 years at Walden Country Club which provided him the base of his experience and knowledge he uses daily. Nick worked for The Davey Tree Expert Company from 2014-2018 as an Irrigation Technician for their Commercial Grounds Division and then was promoted to Production Manager in 2017.

“Growing up in Aurora and now raising a family in the community there is nothing more rewarding than watching our family friends and my two girls play on the fields I get to maintain every day,” said Miller

Miller will be included in a future issue of SportsField Management magazine, SFMA’s official monthly publication. His design will also have a custom poster featured at the 2023 SFMA Conference & Exhibition (January 16-19) in Salt Lake City, Utah.
