J&D Turf employees become new business owners

Advanced Turf Solutions announced that it will divest its sports field construction and maintenance division, previously known as J&D Turf, and three employees have entered into an agreement to acquire the business segment.

Michelle Hancock, Zach Ferguson, and Jeremy Walters will be equal partners in the new business, which will operate as J&D Turf and provide sports field construction, consultation and maintenance services.

“We are excited for the opportunity to take J&D Turf to the next level as an independent company,” said Hancock, who will serve as the company’s business director. “We have been part of J&D Turf for a long time, and we each bring something unique to the team.”

Hancock joined J&D Turf in 2011. As the business director, she is responsible for all quotes, inside sales, purchasing, and tradeshows, among other responsibilities. She previously worked for 17 years as the office manager of a lawn care company in Kentucky. Hancock has been a member of the Indiana Professional Lawn & Landscape Association since 2013, serving various roles that include past president and current board member.

Ferguson has been at J&D Turf since 2015. As the operations director, he is responsible for all field work, scheduling, and customer account management. He has 10 years of sports turf experience at youth, collegiate, and professional facilities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in turf management and science from Purdue University and is a member of the Midwest Regional Turf Foundation and Sports Field Management Association.

Jeremy Walters has been the field manager at J&D Turf since early 2019. He has 11 years of sports turf experience that include managing the fields at Indy Premier Soccer Club. Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in electronics technology from Indiana State University.

Advanced Turf Solutions will continue to serve the sports field market as a distributor of infield products, fertilizer, chemicals, seed and equipment.

“Advanced Turf Solutions is no longer offering maintenance or construction services, but we remain focused on athletic fields and providing premium products and innovative solutions for sports field managers,” said Scott Brame, CEO of Advanced Turf Solutions.
