SFMA announces 2022 board of directors

The Sports Field Management Association (SFMA) recently held its annual board of directors elections and announced the results.

Elected President is James Bergdoll, CSFM, director of park maintenance for the City of Chattanooga (Tenn.). Bergdoll will serve a one-year term. Joining him on the SFMA Executive Committee are Immediate Past President Nick McKenna, CSFM, asst. athletic field manager, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas; President Elect Sun Roesslein, CSFM, sports stadium manager-North Area Complex, Jeffco Schools, Golden, Colo.; Secretary Treasurer Dan Bergstrom, CSFM, director turf and grounds, PNC Stadium, Houston; and Commercial Vice President, Paula Sliefert, senior manager – commercial business, The Toro Co., Bloomington, Minn.

Elected Directors, who will serve a two-year term (except the At Large position, which is a one-year term), include:

  • At-Large: Alpha Jones, CSFM, Fayetteville Woodpeckers, Fayetteville, N.C.
  • Academic: Adam Thoms, Ph.D., Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
  • Higher Education: Jason DeMink, CSFM, University of Michigan Athletics, Ann Arbor, Mich.
  • Parks and Rec: Jason Bowers, CSFM, Montgomery Parks-Cabin John, Bethesda, Md.

Two directors were not up for election and are serving the second year of their terms. They are Jeremy Driscoll, CSFM, St. Mark’s High School, Wilmington, Del.; and Nicole Sherry, Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore, Md., representing the K-12 and Professional categories, respectively.

President Bergdoll made two appointments. Brad Thedens, CSFM, City of Sioux Falls, S.D. was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Director position; and Jamie Mehringer, Advanced Turf Solutions, Fishers, Ind. to Commercial Director.

The board officially took office at the association’s annual meeting, which was held Jan. 19, during its national conference in Savannah, Ga. This is the inaugural board to serve the membership under the new flagship brand, Sports Field Management Association, which was also revealed during the national conference.
