The D.C. United of MLS have invested nearly $1 million to install a dedicated “safe-standing” area in two sections at Audi Field. The improvement provides waist-high railings to accommodate passionate fans who have no desire to be seated during a match.
Safe-standing is a design measure in stadiums to ensure that spectators are able to stand safely during events. These designated standing areas being built in compliance with all safety laws and guidelines.
The design feature has quickly been taking root in MLS with multiple other teams throughout the league already having incorporated specially designed safe-standing areas, and more teams moving to incorporate similar areas.
The safe-standing areas at Audi Field will accommodate approximately 2,000 fans.
