Version 3.0 of STMA environmental stewardship program coming this spring

The STMA Environmental Committee completed its first draft of Version 3.0 of the Environmental Facility Certification Program. It will be programmed and tested in February with a projected April date for launching to the membership.

Although some questions within the current version have been updated, those changes are primarily to clarify the question so that applicants can provide a concise answer. The main change in Version 3 is the addition of a new section: Managed Landscape and Open Space, which has an addition of 16 areas to assess. It joins the following sections:

  • Stormwater Management
  • Fertilization
  • Pesticides/IPM
  • Recycling
  • Educational Outreach
  • Composting
  • Mowing
  • Energy Conservation
  • Shop Buildings/Storage
  • Irrigation

As with versions 1.0 and 2.0, the new version will have the facility self-assessment online. A CSFM will also still be required to conduct attesting of the practices by conducting a walkthrough of the facility with the sports field manager.

The 2019 Environmental Committee is chaired by Victoria Wallace. Members include Rich Calarco, CSFM; Jim Cornelius, CSFM; Clark Cox, CSFM; Jeremy Driscoll; Blair Elliot; Eric Harshman; Zack Holm, CSFM; Jeremy Husen; Kevin Mercer, CSFM; and David Gerken.
