NCS4 Best Practice Take-Away: Evacuation vs. Shelter in Place

NCS4, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security, shared a “Best Practice Take-Away” regarding “Evacuation vs. Shelter in Place.”

Keeping fans safe at all events is a priority for venue managers. The strategies used to keep guests safe vary based off many different factors. One of the many decisions that must be made is whether to evacuate a venue or shelter in place. This decision should look at all factors to ensure the proper decision is made to keep all individuals safe. This should be part of the Emergency Action Plan. Prior to making the decision and initiating an evacuation, consider the inherent risks. It could be the best course of action is not to evacuate, partially evacuate, shelter in place, or relocate at all.
