50-field sport complex approved at Rowan U

The Rowan University (NJ) Board of Trustees has given the okay to begin site development plans for a multisport athletic complex on the school’s west campus.

According to nj.com, Rowan will lease 300 acres of former farmland from West Campus Fields, and is working closely with the organization’s lead partner Elite Development Program.

Plans for the site include an indoor training center, a 4,500-seat arena, more than 50 athletic fields including baseball fields and track and field facilities, tennis courts, a hotel and retail space. The development with be the future site of Rowan athletics, as well as catering to youth sports tournaments.

The timeline for the project has not yet been determined.

In a press release, Rowan University president Ali Houshmand said, “The Board’s vote demonstrates Rowan’s full commitment to the project. We are confident that WCF will be able to secure what it needs to make this project a great success.
