It’s been a steady headline item over the course of Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway, and there have been cases of it from the Sprint Unlimited even into Sunday’s 58th running of the Daytona 500.
The drivers think tracks hosting NASCAR events need to remove grass from the portions of the infield closest to the racing surface.
What’s mainly been keeping the story in the headlines for the last week has been evidenced by the cars that have been completely torn up when they get in that portion of the track. And in case you didn’t know, these cars aren’t cheap.
It’s bad enough going off-course due to an accident, but it’s another thing when there’s even more damage done to the car because the grass is either tall and thick or just unlevel.
