Madera Unified School District north of Fresno will install the first high school artificial turf field with an all-organic infill in California, this summer. Installation of the new Matrix Turf with Geoplus infill at Madera’s Memorial Stadium is scheduled to start early June by Hellas Construction.
After careful consideration and research, Madera Unified School District north of Fresno will install the first High School artificial turf field with an all-organic infill in California, this summer. Installation of the new Matrix Turf with Geoplus infill at Madera’s Memorial Stadium is scheduled to start early June by Hellas Construction.
Madera is amongst the most forward thinking school districts by selecting the next generation of turf infill as well as a shock pad underneath the turf. The school board voted unanimously 7-0 for the project on March 24th. “We found only positives with the organic infill” said Madera Unified Director of Athletics Marty Bitter, “around 3000 students and athletes will utilize this field and why shouldn’t we get the best and the safest for our kids, ” said Bitters. The school District researched different turf providers and visited several installations before presenting recommendations to the board.
The Geoplus infill is made from 100% environmentally friendly materials reducing surface temperatures by up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit by resisting heat absorption and retaining humidity. Other benefits are excellent footing and traction. The infill emulates natural dirt and is less spongy and bouncy which can be the case with rubber infill.
Flour Bluff Independent School District in Texas installed their Matrix Synthetic turf field with Geoplus infill last summer. After one football season they are extremely pleased with the playability and the noticeable temperature reduction of their field. Other schools with Geoplus infill are: Canada College – CA, Skyline College – CA, and University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the City of Perris, also in California, is a project currently underway.
