Streets and sidewalks are emerging, the sun has come out and temperatures are higher than they’ve been in months. All the signs suggest the brunt of one of the snowiest seasons on record may actually be behind us.
But the effects of winter will surely linger, leaving South Shore (MA) communities grappling with how to deal with snow-covered athletic fields, particularly those made of pricey artificial turf. Some towns are renting indoor space for sports practices, while others are using gyms, parking lots and other cleared spaces.
