The Purdue University Turf team will be presenting the 2nd annual Basic Sports Turf Workshop on Tuesday 10 June 2014. This event will again include a ½ day classroom session at the W.H. Daniel Turfgrass Research and Diagnostic Center and a ½ day afternoon practical section. The morning session will cover topics that include: selecting grass and seed for Indiana athletic fields, fundamental maintenance practices, and answers to frequently asked questions related to athletic field pests. In the hands-on afternoon session, participants will learn about the operation and calibration of ride-on spreader/sprayers as well as the selection and use of soil amendments/conditioners for baseball/softball fields. This portion of the workshop will be held at a local youth athletic complex. The content of this workshop is primarily intended for those seeking entry-level knowledge or as a refresher for experienced athletic field managers. The Purdue Sports Turf Workshop is being presented in conjunction with the Indiana Sports Turf Managers Association. Participants will receive breakfast coffee-snacks and a box lunch plus all participants will receive a copy of “Calibrating Ride-on Pesticide Sprayers and Fertilizer Spreaders: Keys to Application Accuracy”.
