North Carolina State University Turfgrass Program has launched a new app to help the folks who maintain athletic fields. The NCSU Sports Turf app features information on grasses, maintenance, pests and irrigation. News headlines, alerts and “turf tips” also make this app a go-to resource for sports turf managers.
“This app will allow sports turf managers to locate the most up-to-date information on athletic field maintenance,” said Dr. Charles Peacock, professor of crop science and one of the app developers. “It will provide instant access to maintenance calendars and other publications important to having a top quality athletic field.”
But the app isn’t only for sports turf professionals.
“The NCSU Sports Turf app is intended for use by anyone, from the professional sports turf manager to those maintaining fields for schools or parks and recreation departments who may have had little or no formal training in turfgrass management,” Peacock said.
Gleaning information from the Turfgrass Program’s popular and widely-used TurfFiles website (http://www.turffiles.ncsu.edu), the app is available for Apple and android devices. Users without these devices can access the same information through an RSS feed at www.sports-turf.ncsu.edu. Content is updated regularly by NC State Turfgrass Program faculty.
