STMA member Michael Hopkins, Louisa, VA was featured in the December 30 print issue of Sports Illustrated. He is one of six individuals listed in the “Faces in the Crowd” section for his work as Sports Turf Manager and Turfgrass Science Instructor at Louisa County High School. Hopkins won the 2013 STMA Field of the Year for Schools/Parks Soccer Field, as well as one for his football field in 2011. “Faces in the Crowd” has been a weekly column in Sports Illustrated since January 9, 1956. To their knowledge, this is the first time they have featured a Sports Turf Manager in the section, according to Glenn Grey of Buffalo Communications, the PR agency for the Sports Turf Managers Association. Hopkins recently retired after 23 years as the Lions’ turf manager.
