The turf wars have begun, in both a literal and figurative sense. There are 21 teams trying to knock Penn Manor off its perch atop the Lancaster-Lebanon (PA) Field Hockey League. There's also the turf war being waged among the haves and have-nots within the league. That's the competition that teams who play on artificial surfaces have against those that have home fields of the grass variety. And while the game is classified as the same thing, and the same rules are used, there's no denying that playing field hockey on grass is way different than playing it on an artificial surface.
