Steve Christman to receive Perry Dye Service Award from GCBAA

Respected for his commitment to the GCBAA and its membership, as well as being an innovator as a distributor of products to golf course contractors throughout the United States and abroad, Steve Christman, Owner/President of Eagle Golf & Landscape Products, is being bestowed with the Perry Dye Service Award by the Golf Course Builders Association of America (GCBAA).

“Steve has been one of our most active members. He served on the GCBAA board for 12 years in numerous committee roles with one of his most significant being the GCBAA’s Treasurer,” said Justin Apel, GCBAA executive director. “Most notably while Steve served as the GCBAA’s treasurer he was instrumental in guiding the Association to fiscal stability”.

Kurt Huseman, GCBAA president, also added, “When you ask many of the members of our Association who was the catalyst for them joining they will tell you it was Steve Chrisman. It takes a lifetime of selfless service to the golf industry to even be considered for this award and Steve Christman is as worthy a recipient as there is in our industry today. His contribution to the GCBAA has been significant and I am pleased that he will receive this very prestigious award.”

Christman owns Eagle Golf & Landscape Products which distributes pipe, drainage materials and erosion control products to the golf industry. In addition, Christman developed, manufactures and distributes Eagle Interface, a root zone and moisture barrier specifically designed for green and bunker construction. Eagle Golf & Landscape Products has been a GCBAA charter member since 2003 and Christman himself celebrates his 20th year as a member and has served on the GCBAA board of directors for more than a decade, from 1999 to 2011. He’s also been a longtime supporter of the GCBAA Sticks for Kids and Scholarship Program.

The Perry Dye Service Award is given periodically by the Golf Course Builders Association of America to recognize a member of the GCBAA who is an exceptional individual, who has been a loyal member of the Association and who has unselfishly contributed their time and influence to foster positive changes for the Association and have continually endeavored to make it better.  The award is named after Perry Dye, who during the early development years of the GCBAA exemplified these types of characteristics when he provided financial assistance to stabilize the GCBAA during the embryonic stages of the Association.

This is only the fourth time the Perry Dye Service Award has been granted. Previous recipients include Perry Dye in 2005, Jim Kirchdorfer, Sr. (2006) and Rick Elyea (2010). Steve will be honored with the award at the upcoming annual Summer Meeting of the GCBAA to be held the week of July 22 in Monterey, CA.
