Brock PlayBase for children’s playgrounds and Brock PaverBase for home pedestrian areas have both received the prized Cradle to Cradle CertificationCM for their outstanding commitment to sustainability. This milestone marks the first time the coveted environmental designation has been bestowed upon performance base products in their respective industries. Recognized as the most comprehensive, rigorous environmental certification process, the designation is administered by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, which evaluates products and materials for their impact on human health and environmental health and design for future life cycles.

Environmental stewardship is a core value for parent company Brock International. In October 2011, Brock PowerBase, a combined drainage and shock pad product installed underneath synthetic turf fields, received the first Cradle to Cradle CertificationCM in the industry. All three products have received the prestigious Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM Silver Designation. Brock worked closely with McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) to collect data throughout the supply chain, assess all materials for impact to human and environmental health, and evaluate manufacturing processes for use of renewable energy, water stewardship, and social responsibility. MBDC is a global consultancy and certification firm that helps clients create a positive footprint on the planet by implementing the Cradle to Cradle® design framework.
Brock PlayBase, the first 100% closed loop recyclable base system engineered for playground surfaces, is the only C2C system designed to provide shock absorption and drainage in playgrounds under both artificial turf and rubber mulch surfacing. Reflecting their mutual commitment to sustainability, Brock has forged a strategic, exclusive distribution relationship for PlayBase with Shaw Industries’ Turf Division, which is comprised of Southwest Greens, Shaw Sports Turf and TerraSoft.
Used to lay pavers in pedestrian areas, Brock PaverBase speeds construction, makes the site easier to work in, and gives the homeowner the patio of their dreams in less time. The overlapping panel system is made from Polypropylene, an environmental material known for its durability, resilience, and thermal insulation qualities. Brock PaverBase replaces much of the traditional base used under pavers. It has been specially engineered for patios and walkways and other pedestrian applications.
Brock PowerBase is a shock pad and drainage layer used beneath synthetic turf on athletic fields. The Cradle to Cradle CertifiedCM program is a multi-attribute eco-label that assesses a product’s safety to humans and the environment and design for future life cycles. The program provides guidelines to help businesses like Brock implement the Cradle to Cradle framework, which focuses on using safe materials that can be disassembled and recycled as technical nutrients or composted as biological nutrients. Unlike single-attribute eco-labels, MBDC’s certification program takes a comprehensive approach to evaluating the design of a product and the practices employed in manufacturing the product. The materials and manufacturing practices of each product are assessed in five categories: Material Health, Material Reutilization, Renewable Energy Use, Water Stewardship, and Social Responsibility.
