These changes will allow a crew member with no formal education to be eligible to test in 16 years, rather than 40 years with the original point system.

STMA Board approves changes to CSFM program

The STMA Board of Directors approved increasing the number of experience points awarded to crew members, assistants and interns, which would qualify them to sit for the Certification exam sooner. The Certification Committee recommended these changes to the board to recognize the importance of these staff to a sports facility.
Points for crew members are increased to 2.5 per year of experience (previously 1 point per year) and 4 points per year for Assistants (previously 3 points per year).  These changes will allow a crew member with no formal education to be eligible to test in 16 years, rather than 40 years with the original point system. There is no change to the experience points awarded to a head sports turf manager or an assistant golf course superintendent.
In addition, students who are in a qualified internship program, which is a program at a higher education institution that awards credit hours for interning, will receive 0.1 point per 100 worked during the internship.
