Illinois Sports Turf Managers Association Fall Education Workshop Sept 21

Friday September 21 the Illinois STMA Chapter will sponsor its 2012 Fall Education Workshop at the Benedictine University Sports Complex, Lisle, IL. Program will include “Prioritizing Limited Resources,” which includes: Getting the most impact for your money when managing native soil fields; Basic management of turf on a tight budget; and What the textbooks don’t tell you. Also on the program is “Soil Physical Property Management,” including managing sand and soil-based fields, presented by Dr. Andy McNitt, Associate Professor of Soil Science/Turfgrass at Penn State.


Dr. McNitt has been with the Pennsylvania State University for 25 years. He presently is the Program Coordinator for the 4-year turfgrass science major at Penn State.


He conducts research relating to athletic field surface characterization and golf green construction and maintenance.
He has consulted on numerous golf course construction and renovation projects and athletic fields’ construction and renovation at all levels of play from high school through professional sports complexes. Dr. McNitt is currently the technical advisor to the NFL Groundskeepers Association and is active with the Sports Turf Managers Association.
