MLB starts maintenance clinics

Kansas City Royals, along with the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) and Royals Charities, hosted a “Grow with the Pros” field maintenance clinic in late March. Royals head groundskeeper Trevor Vance and his crew provided attendees with field maintenance tips and techniques.

Participating vendors were also on-site to provide product information. Following the public open house, a private field maintenance clinic was held for youth baseball and softball organizations, including BTF and KC Royals Charities grant recipients.

In conjunction with the clinic, BTF presented $5,000 grants to both Blue Springs (Mo.) High School and Van Horn High School in Independence, Mo., for baseball field upgrades.

The clinic was the first of five that will take place during the 2012 season.  Upcoming field maintenance clinics include: Detroit Tigers (April 14); New York Mets (August 11); and Seattle Mariners (August 24).
