STMA and the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) have been working together to share ideas and exchange information for the previous three years. In January, the IOG was officially recognized by STMA as an International Affiliate Organization (IAO). The IOG represents those in the sports and grounds industry in the UK.
IAO status formalizes collaboration between STMA and organizations outside of the U.S. and its territories, similar to a chapter but without the legal complexities. The STMA and IOG will continue to share information and participate in each other’s educational events. In late 2011, Allen Johnson, CSFM gave a presentation at the IOG conference, and Ian Lacey from IOG presented at STMA’s annual conference in Long Beach in January. STMA also provides a membership to the IOG’s president, and offers its educational resources, including conference registration and certification opportunities to all IOG members at the STMA member rates.
