The group decided to hire an environmental consultant to evaluate what would be involved in cleaning up the property, which was the site of a tannery in the 1800s and gelatin and glue factories from about 1900 through the 1970s.

The Winchester Soccer Club’s plan to build an athletic park on a former factory site has picked up speed after a consultant found contaminants on the property can be cleaned up without major cost. Plans calls for two artificial turf multisport fields and two smaller grass fields on the 8.7-acre site, located on Cross Street near the Woburn line. The group decided to hire an environmental consultant to evaluate what would be involved in cleaning up the property, which was the site of a tannery in the 1800s and gelatin and glue factories from about 1900 through the 1970s.
