During the previous Fair Grounds season, jockeys and trainers expressed concerns about safety on the course. It wasn’t unusual to see horses stumble on it. Trainers also said drainage was an issue. Track officials realized something had to be done. The overhaul of the turf course is probably the most significant change initiated by the Fair Grounds for the 84-day meet that opened last week.
