GCSAA, Plant Management Network reach partnership agreement

Members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America will have increased access to the latest in turfgrass research information as a result of a partnership agreement between GCSAA and the Plant Management Network, publisher of the online journal Applied Turfgrass Science.

As a part of this agreement, GCSAA members will receive a 15 percent discount on a subscription to Applied Turfgrass Science. In addition, Golf Course Management magazine’s own research section will benefit from exclusive access to research information previously published online by Applied Turfgrass Science.

“We’re pleased to be able to formalize our partnership with the Plant Management Network and Applied Turfgrass Science,” said GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans. “They have been important partners of GCSAA through the publication of the Golf Course Environmental Profile project, and this agreement offers our members access to important agronomic information that can help them do their jobs better.”

“It is particularly gratifying to me to see GCSAA and the Plant Management Network, organizations that I’ve worked closely with over the years, come together for the good of the golf course superintendent,” said Jack Fry, a professor in the department of horticulture, forestry and recreation resources at Kansas State University and the current editor of Applied Turfgrass Science.

“Having served on the GCSAA education faculty since 1998, I am always impressed at the superintendents’ desire to access new, relevant scientific information that will help them become better at what they do. Applied Turfgrass Science is increasingly becoming the outlet for turfgrass scientists to publish readily applicable research. The partnership between the GCSAA and the Plant Management Network is a win-win: it allows scientists to more easily direct information to the practitioner, and gives the superintendent direct access to the science.”

The Plant Management Network is a not-for-profit, online publisher whose mission is to enhance the health, management and production of agricultural and horticultural crops. Turfgrass resources through the Plant Management Network include Applied Turfgrass Science, Plant Disease Management Reports, Arthropod Management Tests and the PMN Plant Science Database, which indexes the USGA Green Section’s Turfgrass and Environmental Research Online (TERO).

“The Plant Management Network sincerely looks forward to working with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America,” said Phil Bogdan, the business and communications manager for the Plant Management Network. “The peer-reviewed research, management guides, and briefs published in our Applied Turfgrass Science journal — and the efficacy reports on fungicides, nematicides and biological controls published in Plant Disease Management Reports — are very complementary to GCSAA’s high-quality informational offerings for golf course superintendents.”

Launched in 2004 through the efforts of the C5 (turfgrass) division of the Crop Science Society of America, Applied Turfgrass Science is an international online journal that is dedicated to providing timely information for the turfgrass industry through research, review and information articles. The scope of these articles encompasses all aspects of the turfgrass industry, but focus primarily on research and information that is relevant to practicing turfgrass professionals such as golf course superintendents.
