The Gary Vanden Berg  Internship Grant – This grant, in its inaugural year, honors Gary Vanden Berg, CSFM, for his contributions to the industry in promoting internships. Gary is the Director of Grounds for the Milwaukee Brewers and his commitment to creating an excellent learning experience for interns is legendary throughout the MLB and the entire sports turf industry. This grant will be awarded in late fall each year for an internship completed during the spring or summer of that year. STMA Student Members in good standing who are currently enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours or were enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in the semester just prior to the internship are eligible to submit for the $1,000 grant. Thus, recent graduates who completed an internship after graduation are eligible. The grant will be awarded later this fall and the winner will be introduced at the 2012 STMA Annual Conference in Long Beach in January.  The grant is intended to offset the costs a student may have incurred while interning including, but not limited to, transportation, lodging, and food, or as a subsidy to wages.  In addition to receiving the grant, the winner will also receive a full conference registration and three nights lodging at the next STMA National Conference and Exhibition.  Click here for the submission form.
Terry Mellor Continuing Education Grant, sponsored by Turface Athletics – This $1,000 grant is intended to fund the winner’s attendance at the STMA Conference in January.  All members of an STMA affiliated chapter are eligible to win, and must be nominated through a letter of recommendation by a National STMA Member. STMA will provide a complimentary conference registration to the winner, and the winner will be recognized at the association’s annual Awards Banquet held at the conference.  Click here to download the guidelines and nomination form.
SAFE Scholarships – Students in two year and four year collegiate turfgrass programs are encouraged to apply for a SAFE scholarship. More than $12,000 is given annually to students who are planning a career in the sports turf industry. Click here to download the SAFE Scholarship Criteria and Application.  All materials must be submitted together and STMA does not accept faxed applications. The STMA Scholarship Committee independently scores the applications and the winners will be notified in mid-November. In addition to the financial award, each winner receives a complimentary registration to the STMA conference, three nights’ hotel accommodations and recognition at the STMA Awards Banquet.
STMA Field of the Year – Enter your field to be recognized as a 2011 Field of the Year. STMA Field of the Year Awards may be presented in baseball, softball, football, soccer, or sporting grounds at the Schools and Parks, College and University and Professional levels. Click here for information on the criteria and to fill out the form.  Recipients will be selected by the STMA Awards Committee and recognized at the STMA Awards Banquet in Long Beach. Winners will also receive complimentary conference registration, three nights hotel, signature clothing, awards plaque, and promotion through SportsTurf magazine and STMA press releases.
STMA Founders’ Awards – Nominate a peer who has impacted the sports turf profession for one of STMA’s most prestigious awards.  Each of the four Founders’ awards recognize someone who has made a difference in the industry. To nominate someone, download the nomination form here.  The Winners will be announced at the Annual STMA Awards Banquet, which is Jan. 13, 2012 in Long Beach.
STMA Innovative Awards – STMA’s Innovative Awards Program recognizes those companies that evolve the professional capacity of the sports turf manager. If you are an STMA Commercial Member and exhibiting at the upcoming 2012 Conference and Exhibition, any product, service, equipment or technology you have introduced since the 2011 show is eligible for an Innovative Award. Your entry should enhance the effectiveness of the sports turf manager or make a playing surface safer and more playable for athletes, or both!  A panel of non-commercial STMA members representing all segments of membership will judge the entries and may give the award to multiple companies that meet the criteria. Winner(s) will be kept confidential until announced during the first day of the STMA Trade Show and will subsequently be recognized at the STMA Awards Banquet as well. Winner(s) will be able to use a special logo in their promotion of the winning innovation and STMA will publicize the winners through its communication vehicles, including SportsTurf Magazine!
