Barenbrug USA hires Peter Ballerstedt as new product manager

Barenbrug USA has hired Peter Ballerstedt as the forage product manager. “We are very pleased to have Peter on board…he brings us a great knowledge of forage agronomy and grazing management along with an innate ability to communicate this information throughout the industry,” said John Walther, Barenbrug Vice President of professional turf and forage products.  Walther added. “He has an impressive background and we look forward to having his expertise on the team.” Peter will work out of the Tangent, Oregon office.


Ballerstedt joins the Barenbrug USA team with a background in crop science and forage management.  Ballerstedt, who got his BS in Agriculture and Masters in Crop Science (both from the University of Georgia), received his Ph. D. in Forage Management and Utilization from the University of Kentucky.  He has written numerous publications and articles and currently writes a blog focused on diet, health and human nutrition called “Grass Based Health” which can be found at www.grassbasedhealth.blogspot.com.


Ballerstedt’s areas of expertise include forage agronomy, grazing management, ruminant nutrition, human nutrition, project management, technical writing, instruction and public speaking. Peter has an extensive background in forage production, utilization and forage-based livestock production systems. He was the forage extension specialist at Oregon State University from 1986 until 1992.


Prior to joining Barenbrug Ballerstedt was a Learning Products Project Manager at Hewlett Packard.  He worked for Hewlett Packard from 1997 until 2011.


Ballerstedt and his wife, Nancy, are residents of Philomath, Oregon. His interests include playing the hammered dulcimer, cooking and caring for their three dogs.
