Green Start Academy registration now open

Assistant superintendents from the U.S. and Canada have the opportunity to expand their knowledge, learn about key industry issues and trends, network with their peers, and collaborate with industry experts if they are selected to attend the 6th Annual Green Start Academy in Clayton, N. C. Applications are now open for the event – hosted by John Deere Golf and Bayer CropScience – which has been rated a highly valued experience by past alumni.

From lectures and round table discussions to networking opportunities and best practice exchanges, Green Start Academy activities provide assistants with knowledge and tips that are essential to their professional growth.

“You can’t beat the networking opportunity that Green Start Academy offers,” said Joe Schneider, 2010 Green Start Academy attendee and assistant superintendent at Beverly Country Club, Chicago. “It’s interesting to meet with assistant superintendents from across the country and realize we all face the same issues; it’s a great way to get an idea of what works and doesn’t work for your peers.”

To be considered for Green Start Academy, assistants are required to complete an online application and respond to one of two pre-selected essay questions. Of the applicants, only 50 are selected to attend the sought-after event.

The following panel of industry experts will judge the essays:

·   Ken Mangum, director of golf course and grounds, Atlanta Athletic Club

·   Bob Farren, grounds and golf course manager, Pinehurst Resort

·   Patrick Finlen, director of golf maintenance operations, The Olympic Club

·   John Zimmers, grounds superintendent, Oakmont Country Club

·   Paul Grogan, director of golf course maintenance operations, TPC Deere Run

The 2011 Green Start Academy is scheduled for Oct. 5-7, at the Bayer CropScience Development and Training Center in Clayton, N.C., and John Deere’s Turf Care factory in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.

The application phase is open through July 8, 2011, and winners will be notified the week of August 15, 2011.  For more information and to apply, assistant superintendents should visit www.BackedbyBayer.com/GreenStartAcademy.
