David Pelt, regional sales manager, Stens, sharpens chain on the Dinasaw chain sharpener that was driven around on a golf cart trailer to devastated regions. Sharpening was offered free of charge to anyone needing the service in conjunction with Ringgold Power Sports. In response to the series of tornadoes to hit the southern United States, Stens sent a relief team to the ravaged areas. Areas visited included Ringgold, Ga., and Tuscaloosa, Ala., both hit by tornadoes on April 27; and Joplin, Mo., after the May 22 tornado.
In Ringgold, a team of Stens employees volunteered to assist Ringgold Power Sports with post-storm cleanup. The Stens team brought two Dinasaw chain sharpeners to the dealer, who in turn drove carts to cleanup sites with trailers attached, each containing a machine. This allowed the team to offer free chain sharpening to anyone needing the service in devastated areas.
The team in Tuscaloosa arrived in the Franzen trailer, toting a Franzen chain sharpening machine and two Dinasaw sharpeners. With these machines in tow, the group was able to offer free chain sharpening to Singley’s, a Stens dealer located a quarter mile from the tornado’s path.
In May, the Joplin relief team brought the Franzen trailer and worked with S&H Farm Supply to offer free chain sharpening to the area. The team also set up the sharpening station nearly a mile from where the tornado touched down.
