Want to take the Certified Field Builder examination? The American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), the national organization for builders, designers and suppliers of materials for tennis courts, running tracks, synthetic turf fields and indoor and outdoor synthetic sports surfaces, is encouraging all those who are interested to sign up now and get studying.
ASBA will be offering CFB exam (as well as certification exams for tennis court builders and track builders) at its next Technical Meeting. The date for that meeting is December 2-5 at the J.W. Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, California.
The Certified Field Builder (CFB) designation is available three ways, depending upon a builder’s specialty or interest. Three versions of the exam will be offered for those who want to achieve the following designations: Certified Field Builder (CFB) which demonstrates knowledge in the construction and maintenance of both natural and synthetic fields; Certified Field Builder-Natural (CFB-N) which demonstrates knowledge in the in the construction and maintenance of natural fields; and Certified Field Builder-Synthetic (CFB-S) which demonstrates knowledge in the construction and maintenance of synthetic fields.
Information on the CFB certification, including eligibility forms, application materials, policies, handbooks and more, can be obtained by going to www.sportsbuilders.org. Use the toolbar at the top of the page, select “Certification” (the fourth option from the left) and click on it. Choose “Certified Field Builders” from the drop-down menu. All the materials you need are right there. The exam is generally offered once during the Technical Meeting, although arrangements can be made to take it at other times by contacting the ASBA staff.
Field professionals should note that the upcoming Technical Meeting will include a trade show featuring some of the newest products and techniques available on the athletic facility market. The ASBA’s Fields Division will also meet, which poses a unique opportunity for field professionals to discuss common interests and become involved in Association projects.
The program will have state-of-the-art sessions on advanced technique in sports facility design, construction and materials, as well as more rudimentary “how to” programs directed at those who want a more hands-on approach. ASBA is an approved provider of continuing education programs to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) through its Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LACES).
In addition, there will be multiple social events to facilitate networking, golf and tennis tournaments, meetings of board and committees, presentations of industry awards and more.
