No-metal spikes on synthetic outfields causing concern in IL

Addison Trail and Glenbard West high schools (IL) believe they are protecting recently installed synthetic turfs in the outfields of their softball diamonds by not allowing opposing teams to wear metal spikes. The policy goes against Illinois High School Association softball rules allowing metal spikes and has left representatives from at least five schools in the West Suburban Conference at a financial and/or competitive disadvantage.
