Job opening: Assistant Director (Park Operations), Baton Rouge, LA

SALARY:   Annually depends on qualifications plus full benefits. This is a six month introductory appointment. Satisfactory completion of introductory period is required prior to full-time staff appointment.


REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an accredited 4 year college or university in Parks Management, Landscape Architecture, Turf Grass Science or related; Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Parks Management, Landscape Architecture, Turf Grass Science or related preferred; Certified Playground Inspector CPSI through National Safety Playground Institute (NSPI) and Class 3 Turf and Ornamental Pesticide Applicator’s license; Sports Turf Management Association certification or CPRP certification through National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) preferred; Valid LA driver’s license; Five years supervisory experience in public setting in directly related field; Considerable knowledge of general park management, sports turf development & management, and facility management; Considerable knowledge of basic landscape design & tools, construction & techniques; Strong leadership & interpersonal skills to develop relationships leading to motivated staff; Basic computer skills & working knowledge of computer programs; Excellent communication skills, including public speaking skills.


DUTIES: Supervises and coordinates daily activities of the Park Operations Division as assigned; Performs field inspections; Coordinates and supervises special maintenance/ construction projects; Assists director in expense monitoring, long range planning and budgeting activities; Coordinates routine activities between departments such as Capital Improvements and Recreation; Assumes director’s duties in their absence; Insures proper care and maintenance of equipment; Develops and maintains parks, sports complexes, stadiums and special facilities; Recommends specifications for purchases; Evaluates, disciplines, and trains subordinates; Other duties as assigned.
